State Street Ballet Announces Modified Season
STATE STREET BALLET PRESENTS MODIFIED MODEL, MAINTAINS VIABILITY AND VISIBILITY
Avoiding a total shutdown, State Street Ballet’s Executive Director Rodney Gustafson has announced an amended 2020-2021 season to begin in October incorporating COVID-19 restrictions. This will include virtual events such as Art While Apart and its corresponding Online Auction, and the annual studio series Evenings will be reimagined as a film festival, featuring choreography by State Street Ballet's dancers. The holiday season will culminate with an online event showing the 2019 performance of The Nutcracker at The Granada Theatre.
Gustafson shares, “Our goal is to remain visible, valued, and relevant to our community and the greater performing arts culture during the pandemic. It is important for us to continue contributing joy and inspiration through the art we create in the absence of live experiences.”
In the short term, and as California state mandates allow, the spring of 2021 will bring State Street Ballet’s live performances back to The Lobero Theatre and outdoor venue, Godric Grove Amphitheater in Elings Park. The company has a full contingent of Professional Track students (their upper level trainee program) and are maintaining a strong subset of their resident company dancers. Their traditional touring season, including “The Nutcracker” performances, has been pushed forward to the 2021-22 Season.
State Street Ballet believes that dance is the heart of every culture. They seek to exemplify the value of this shared experience through innovative live performances, unique educational & outreach programs, and barrier-breaking collaborations.
