Carmina Burana

Once in a generation a performance comes along that is destined to be legendary. This is it—the spectacular Carmina Burana, featuring the breath-taking choreography of State Street Ballet, beautiful voices of the Santa Barbara Choral Society, and heart-pounding music performed by the Santa Barbara Symphony. The production also features Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms.

Don Quixote

One of ballet’s most engaging stories, Don Quixote is based on the famous novel Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. The story has served as inspiration for countless works of art, theatre, music, opera, dance and film. State Street Ballet’s production brings this story to life set to the backdrop of the colorful streets of Spain. Known for fine character dancers, the company is well-suited to portraying the lively personalities in this witty tale. On Tour - Carmen

State Street Ballet brings Carmen to New Mexico, Colorado and New York for a spring tour spanning three states. Inspired by Georges Bizet’s blazingly popular score, this original full-length production has dazzled audiences from coast to coast. Resident Choreographer William Soleau retells the tale of the magnetically beautiful gypsy and her desperate lover in a contemporary ballet style that weaves together both classical and modern influences. Intricate storytelling and Bizet’s passionate music make this Carmen a tour-de-force of theatrical drama.

Women's Work

Created by an all-female lineup of talented choreographers, this fresh, new, and invigorating program is a perfect fit for the intimate setting of The New Vic. The weekend’s premieres include choreography by Brooke Hughes Melton, Sophie Monat, Kassandra Taylor Newberry, Andrea Schermoly, and Cecily Stewart. The program’s centerpiece is “Anne’s Window,” a dance/theatre performance inspired by the life of Anne Frank, and featuring local high school student Sofia Ross acting the role of Anne. Themes of family, solitude, growth and hope are woven throughout this celebration of women’s historic achievements in honor of one of the most influential women in Santa Barbara’s arts community—Léni Fé Bland, whose generosity and activism enriched the lives of so many.  

Don’t miss this remarkable event, sponsored by Sara Miller McCune, with additional support from Margo Cohen-Feinberg, Benjamin Jerry Cohen and Jane S. De Hart, and Andre Yew.
